Cynzia Sanchez – Portrait Artist

Cynzia Sanchez was born and raised in Puerto Rico.  She moved to Atlanta in 1982 to continue her undergraduate and graduate studies in Architecture at Georgia Tech. In 2008, after many years of being a business owner, mother and family coordinator, she made the choice to go back to school. In 2011 she completed a Masters in Fine Arts in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design.

In 2018 Cynzia, encouraged by her Maxeys resident daughter, decided to move to Maxeys to start a Bed and Breakfast with partner Edward Toledano, and to dedicate time to her art.

Sanchez’s contemporary realism disperses between portraiture and the abstraction of the figure.

Cynzia’s passion for painting started at a very young age; her devotion to drawing developed while studying architecture.  These two have evolved parallel to her life. They are part of who she is: a nature lover, an animal activist, a mother, and above all, a woman.

Cynzia’s work deals with all these subjects.  In portraiture she strives to capture the essence of the soul, human or animal.  In landscape her preference is to simplify, since nature is already as perfect as is going to be. As a mother, Cynzia has learned the balance it all requires, and as a woman, she researches the psychology behind what makes some of us change who we are to fit within societal standards.
